HELP - Save our national heritage

VENEZUELA's flag dominates Curaçao's market
Curaçao’s leaders have decided to do something about the harbor pollution and have authorized PDVSA, a Venezuela refinery which leases a plant in Curaçao, to remove and rebuilt our historic and original floating market. Together they committed an atrocity, a barbarian act against our culture and grand theft of our heritage. Department heads, government officials and some opportunistic political leaders let it happen. The once charming floating market knitted together with fish-line, discarded rope, faded flour bags, old sails and colorful pieces of rags, is no more. Instead PSDVSA built an atrocious aluminum and plastic concoction in its place and draped it with the Venezuela flag! I have set up a petition drive (in Dutch and papiamentu) on www.remetido.com
If you are concerned about Willemstad, our World Heritage City, our culture and our national heritage, please visit the site. Go to “Floating Market Petition Drive” and click on “add-comments”. Feel free to add your comments, pro or against our action. We will collect these comments and offer them to our Mayor, our Gezaghebber.
We would like to make our Mayor aware that we, and many world citizens care for our city and that we would like to see the market restored in its original state.
